For this project, I had to create sustainable packaging for my proposed business idea. I had to create packaging that included all three of the necessary functions of good packaging: to store, to transport, and to promote a product. On top of the three functions, I was tasked with making it sustainable (in a creative way, not just saying “its made from recycled materials”).

The idea I came up with is a box that has a second life as a hanging file organizer. This products target market is small business owners, so I had to find a way to make the packaging useful for this specific market in some way. This second life as a filing organizer fits the market because small business owners often have paperwork to keep track of, and they could benefit from using a hanging file organizer. By creating packaging that has a high-end look and feel, it can be used for years and years. This keeps trash out of landfills because it serves a second purpose rather than being thrown away.
